Use ChatSIM to Make VoIP Calls Anywhere in the World, Even Without the Internet

Remember WhatSim? It is a SIM card that allows you to access WhatsApp from anywhere in the world without the need of the internet. Now from the same makers, we have another innovative product called ChatSim. They’ve taken things a step ahead and launched the world’s first SIM card which can be used for VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) via WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, Facebook, LINE, and all other apps as a single voice communication system, even without Wi-Fi. Currently the SIM card, priced for a mere €10, lets users use any instant messaging apps for free.
This Global Mobile operator in Italy, will allow calling at the cost of a few cents per minute. “It is nothing compared to the €6 a minute you pay in many countries as the base roaming rate for GSM calls or to the cost of calls with plans of conventional operators,” explains Manuel Zanella, inventor of ChatSIM.
"WhatSIM, like ChatSIM, finds the best network in the region and automatically shifts to it thus giving you non stop connectivity to whatsapp. "

Manuel Zanella compares the significance of this innovation of his with the new Apple Smartwatch. With the increase in the use of smartphones and tablets, ChatSim founded this idea to bring a revolution and in just 3 months rolled out their services from free chat to free VoIP services.
The company claims that it will charge the user the same kind of rate the user incurred while making calls from these VoIP services using their internet data.
“VoIP calls will soon change the face of how we communicate, making conventional calls a thing of the past,” says Zanella. Describing this SIM card a tailored choice for globetrotters and businessmen who previously had to worry about the outrageous roaming charges in another countries. The company claims that the quality of the VoIP calls (service provided via instant messaging apps) is constantly improving as a result of increasingly faster networks.
The ChatSim services is only available in India as a roaming partner and there are no details about its launch in the country.

Forget Project Ara, here's your first modular smartphone

While many people have been waiting patiently for Google to finally release Project Ara, the modular smartphone you can build yourself, it's been beaten to market by the relatively unknown Fonkraft handset.
The basic handset of the crowd-sourced modular smartphone comes with a 5-inch full HD display (with a pixel density of 441ppi), Android Lollipop, and is completely customisable so you can swap out the RAM, battery, camera and even the screen for different specifications.
To help you choose there are a number of ready-made configurations that you can buy via Fonkraft's Indigogo page, depending on what sort of phone you'd like.

Modular models

The basic model, known as the Fonkraft Pilot, is aimed at delivering battery life in spades with an additional 3,100mAh battery alongside a smaller 1,000mAh battery.
It comes with an 8MP rear camera and a front-facing 2MP snapper, along with a 1.3GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB onboard storage. This is all for an impressive $99 (£65, around AU$124).
If you're keen on taking photos then the Fonkraft Resolution could be of interest which comes with a 20 megapixel camera module, 64GB of storage, a 2.5GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 2,800mAh battery, and will cost you $199 (£130, around AU$249).
If you like listening to music on your smartphone, then there's the Fonkraft HiFi which comes with a a 192kHz HiFi module made of wood for high quality audio playback.
It also features 64GB of storage, a 2.5GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera and a 2,100 mAh battery for $199 (£130, around AU$249).
If you can't make up your mind you can also buy the Fonkraft Elements which comes with all the modules and lets you swap them out to build your own configurations at will for $200 (around £129, AU$250).
All versions support LTE (4G), as well as GMS/EDGE, CDMA (UMTS), WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and GLONASS.
Although Fonkraft has launched before Project Ara to claim the title of the world's first modular smartphone, Project Ara has a more recognisable name which means we might see wider support for Google's offering.

Even so, Fonkraft plans to bring out more modules in the future, including a second SIM tray, extra antenna and 16-megapixel camera. In a similar move to Google, Fonkraft will allow third parties to build and sell their own modules.
You can buy a Fonkraft now, but it will be shipped in September. It's a bit of a wait, but you'll still get one before Project Ara launches.

Android, iOS apps will also run on Windows 10 phones

San Francisco: Microsoft hopes to get more people using the next version of its Windows software on all kinds of devices by giving them access to many of the same apps they're already using on Apple or Android phones.

In a major strategy shift, a top executive told an audience of several thousand software developers Wednesday that Microsoft will release new tools to help them quickly adapt the apps they've built for Apple or Android gadgets, so they will work on smartphones, PCs and other devices that use the new Windows 10 operating system coming later this year.

On the first day of the company's annual software conference, other executives showed off more uses for Microsoft's holographic "augmented reality" headset, the HoloLens - although it's not yet for sale. They also announced the official name for a new web browser, called "Edge," that they promised will be faster and more useful than the Internet Explorer that's been a Microsoft mainstay for 20 years.

All those initiatives are tied to the impending release of Windows 10, the centerpiece of Microsoft's ambitions to regain the stature it commanded when Windows-based PCs dominated the computing world. Today, after losing ground to smartphones and tablets that run software from rivals Apple and Google, Microsoft wants to make Windows 10 the universal software for PCs, phones and other Internet-connected gadgets.

"Windows 10 represents a new generation of Windows, built for an era of more personal computing," CEO Satya Nadella said during a keynote speech, adding that today's consumers and corporate workers want to have the same experience when they are using a variety of devices.

Although Microsoft has previously shown off some features of Windows 10, it's hoping to enlist an army of software developers as allies in its campaign to build enthusiasm for the new release. The company is using the three-day conference, called Build, to demonstrate more features and app-building tools, with an emphasis on mobile devices as well as PCs.
"Our goal is to make Windows 10 the most attractive development platform ever," Vice President Terry Myerson said.

To win over consumers who use competing software, Microsoft needs to persuade outside developers, who create software for consumers and corporate clients, it's worth their time to create new apps and programs for Windows 10.

"Getting developer buy-in is absolutely the crucial thing," said J.P. Gownder, a tech industry analyst at Forrester Research. He said Microsoft has struggled with a "chicken-and-egg" problem, in which developers have been reluctant to build mobile apps for Windows because relatively few people use Windows phones and tablets.
Currently, there are more than 1.4 million apps for Android phones and about the same for Apple devices, while there are only a few hundred thousand apps that work on Windows phones and tablets.

Microsoft's move to help developers adapt their Apple and Android apps for Windows 10 is a major change from the past, when each company maintained rigid differences in their software platforms. Microsoft is also hoping to entice developers by promising that apps for Windows 10 will work equally well on PCs, mobile gadgets, Xbox game consoles and even the HoloLens.

The company has another big carrot to wave in front of those developers: Microsoft has already said it will release Windows 10 as a free upgrade to people who now have PCs or other gadgets running the previous two versions of Windows, provided they upgrade in the coming year. That could help create a huge new audience of Windows 10 users in a relatively short time, Gownder said.

Myerson predicted there will be a billion devices using Windows 10 within the next two to three years. Apps for all those devices will be distributed through a single Windows app store. Myerson also said Microsoft will partner with wireless carriers so consumers who lack credit cards can pay for apps on their phone bill - a popular method in developing nations.
Microsoft has not said exactly when Windows 10 is coming, although some were hoping the company would announce a date on Wednesday.

Since he became CEO last year, Nadella has been presiding over a major overhaul at Microsoft. He has redesigned some of Microsoft's most popular programs for mobile users and invested in new "cloud-computing" services, in which businesses pay to use software that's housed in Microsoft's data centers.

Microsoft announced several new initiatives Wednesday for its Azure cloud-computing service, which has emerged as a fast-growing rival to a popular cloud business operated by Amazon. Microsoft is releasing new programming tools for Azure clients to create programs for computers that run Apple and Linux software, as well as those that run Windows.

Microsoft’s New Browser Will Be Called Microsoft Edge

We knew that Internet Explorer was dead.
We knew a successor was coming.
We just didn’t know the official name, beyond the “Project Spartan” placeholder.

Now we do: Microsoft’s new browser is called Microsoft Edge.
Just announced at the company’s build conference, Edge will be the primary/default browser built into Windows 10.
Details are still light on of what’s unique to Edge, but here’s what we know:
  • It has built-in Cortana support.
  • It has built-in reader, note-taking and sharing features.
  • The design focuses on simplicity and minimalism.
  • The rendering engine is called EdgeHTML.
While no full-size screenshots have been released yet, here’s what we could grab from the demo screen as it debuted:

Here’s the just released “teaser” style video:

Facebook Hello vs. TrueCaller Which Is the Best Caller ID and Dialer App for Android?

The world’s largest social network has a tremendous amount of data about the people that inhabit it. Facebook wants to use this to help you identify who is calling you and give you a little more information along the way with a new free app for Android Facebook Hello.

Hello is currently available for download from the Google Play Store in limited countries, such as the US and Brazil. However, you can still get it if you download and install the APK. You can find the Facebook Hello APK at APK Mirror.

Of course, you will have to grant it access to your Facebook account to use the app. Hello has two purposes: it is a dialer app and a caller ID app. Let’s take a look at both those aspects individually, and as a whole.

Facebook Hello as a Dialer App

The good thing about Hello is that it incorporates most of the features you need, and it adds a few more aspects.
For example, Hello has a number pad with a T9 dictionary for you to quickly look up a contact with a few taps. You can also set contacts as favorites to find them easily. And you get all the usual call records and other data you will need.

What’s New

Since it is integrated with Facebook, it combines your phone’s contact list with your Facebook friends list. So when you search for a name, you will get results from your phone as well as from Facebook.
If your Facebook friend has added his or her phone number to their Facebook account, you can directly call them. If not, use Facebook Messenger to make a free VOIP call — it won’t use your talk minutes, but you’ll need an active Internet connection via WiFi, 3G, or 4G.
Similarly, if a contact in your phone’s address book also is your Facebook friend, Facebook will smartly sync those two and present the option to place a direct call or call for free via Messenger.
If you like all these features, you can set Hello as your default app in Android, replacing your current dialer app.

What’s Missing

That said, not everything is perfect. For instance, Hello does not support swipe gestures for shortcuts, like swiping right on a contact to text message them or swiping left to call them.
Hello also ties you in deeply to Facebook. Whereas other dialer apps like Contacts+ integrate different social networks, Hello is all about this single social network. It does not even support other products Facebook owns, like Instagram or WhatsApp, which also has voice calling and free messaging

Facebook Hello as a Caller ID App

It’s unpleasant to get a call from an unknown number. Hello uses Facebook’s database to provide details of a caller. There are some great caller ID apps for Android, but the crowd-sourced TrueCaller stands out among them. Still, Hello has a few good points of its own.
Unlike TrueCaller, Hello has more accurate data about people. TrueCaller works by analyzing its users’ phonebooks. So I could be saved as just “Mihir” by someone and when I call another person, just the name “Mihir” flashes on screen. That isn’t enough context to be useful as caller ID. On the other hand, Hello uses data from my Facebook profile, so you’ll see my full name and photo when I call. Caller ID is about context, and Hello does that better than TrueCaller.
However, since Hello only displays what Facebook knows about anyone, you won’t always get a result. TrueCaller’s crowd-sourced data recognizes more numbers, since many people still aren’t on Facebook. It’s a question of quantity versus quality.

Hello and TrueCaller are alike in smartly recognizing spam numbers that are commonly blocked by many users, and can automatically block them for you. You’ll also get an alert about such a number if you aren’t automatically blocking.
The app appears as an overlay when you get a call. You can choose to have it show this info for all calls, hidden numbers, or just calls from those who aren’t already in your phone book.
Finally, Hello does not provide further context about an incoming call from someone in your address book. Apps like Ready Contact List will show you recent conversations with them or contextual notes; it would be easy for Facebook to add those, so hopefully we will see those in the future.

Whether you need Hello or not is tied in with how much you use Facebook. If you have an active Facebook account and several friendships there, Hello can be a great asset. You will get context about your friends when they call, context about people you may know when they call, and even make direct free VOIP calls on Messenger without opening a new app.
However, if Facebook isn’t your thing, then you can skip Hello. For you, TrueCaller will do a better job of caller ID, and as for the dialer, you can use TrueDialer for context-aware calls or choose among the many other contacts and dialer apps for Android.

How Much Personal Info Do You Give Facebook?

.
Hello is dependent on you giving Facebook your phone number, your phone’s contact list, and other data like call logs. Thankfully, Hello also has an option to delete all the data from Hello or just delete call and search history.
Still, it begs the question: how much personal information are you comfortable giving Facebook? Have you uploaded your phone number already?
